The City's Department of Public Works (DPW) is seeking an individual whose values align with the values of the City's employees.</p><p>The Department of Public Works is responsible for delivering capital improvement projects for a wide variety of City facilities and infrastructure, maintaining City facilities and fleet assets, facilitating and regulating development activities, and providing animal care and services.</p><p>San Jose Animal Care Services, a division in the Public Works Department, is currently seeking to hire one (1) part-time Digital Communications & Community Engagement Student Intern to perform duties associated with high-quality outreach that supports animal adoptions, community engagement, and public awareness of shelter programs.</p><p>Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:</p><ul style="margin-bottom: 3pt"><li>Plan, create, and schedule engaging content across social media platforms, including graphics, photos, written copy, and short-form video/reels to promote shelter pets, programs, and services.</li><li>Manage and maintain the social media content calendar, ensuring brand compliance and alignment with ACS social strategies.</li><li>Organize and maintain digital photo and video libraries, implementing a practical tagging and meta data system for easy access and retrieval.</li><li>Support website content development and digital outreach, including keeping the public-facing events calendar up to date.</li><li>Oversee the Tails & Trails program's digital presence by managing volunteer-submitted content and maintaining a consistent posting schedule to increase pet visibility and adoption rates.</li><li>Track social media engagement metrics and trends, providing data-informed recommendations to improve reach and community impact; support efforts to grow partnerships with SJFC, SJC, and SJ Library.</li><li>Assist with planning, promotion, and on-site support for community events, public meetings, and outreach activities, including RSVP coordination and attendee engagement.</li></ul><p>The salary range for this classification is $16.33– $23.33 hourly. This includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay. The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidate’s qualifications and experience.</p><p><strong>This internship requires a minimum commitment of 12 hours per week in office throughout the duration of the internship.</strong> Applicants should carefully consider their academic schedule and other commitments before applying to ensure they can meet these requirements.</p><p style="margin: 0 0 10.6667px; padding: 0; font-style: normal; color: inherit; text-align: left; text-indent: 0"><span style="margin: 0; padding: 0"><span style="margin: 0; padding: 0"><strong>Education: </strong></span></span><span style="margin: 0; padding: 0"><span style="margin: 0; padding: 0">Any combination equivalent to completion of high school and current enrollment in an accredited college or university in undergraduate or graduate program.</span></span></p><p style="margin: 0 0 10.6667px; padding: 0; font-style: normal; color: inherit; text-align: left; text-indent: 0"><span style="margin: 0; padding: 0"><span style="margin: 0; padding: 0"><strong>Required Licensing: </strong></span></span><span style="margin: 0; padding: 0"><span style="margin: 0; padding: 0">Possession of a valid driver's license authorizing operation of a motor vehicle in the State of California may be required in performing job duties.</span></span></p><p>The Student Intern is also expected to possess the following additional qualifications and key abilities:</p><ul style="margin-bottom: 3pt"><li>Knowledge and ability to use computers and related applications.</li><li>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with others. </li><li>Ability to carry out oral and written instructions.</li><li>Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. </li></ul><p>SELECTION PROCESS:</p><p>The selection process will consist of an evaluation of the applicant's training and experience based on the application and responses to all the job specific questions. You must answer all questions to be considered, or your application may be deemed incomplete and withheld from further consideration. Applicants are expected to write their own essays/responses. Only those candidates whose backgrounds best match the position will be invited to proceed in the selection process. Additional phases of the selection process will consist of one or more interviews. </p><p><strong>Proof of Student Status:</strong> Applicants are encouraged to upload documentation verifying current enrollment in an accredited college or university program with their application. Acceptable documentation includes a current/upcoming student schedule, unofficial transcript, or screenshot of enrollment status from the organization’s student portal.
