About This Role Provides technical support to Lead Scientists and Technologist Leaders in the preparation and execution of experimental activities and studies, with responsibility for supporting and operating defined process research equipment within the work group. Acts as a focal point for coordinating experimental execution by working closely with process researchers and occasionally with internal/external clients and customers. Provides technical support for product process research and development, application development, technical service, and/or product or process research. This role requires that you gain proficiency through on-the-job training and experience. You need either developing depth in this discipline or knowledge of a range of processes, procedures, and systems. You also need a broad understanding of the job and know how to apply knowledge and skills to complete assigned tasks. You should understand how your team works with others to accomplish objectives and be able to exchange detailed information with other team members. It is your responsibility to evaluate scientific problems to select solutions based on established procedures. You will serve as an informal resource on operational, administrative, data organization, or coordination tasks for less experienced team members with no direct supervisory responsibilities. Your performance will impact the quality, timeliness, and effectiveness of your own work and your team’s work. You should be able to modify work practices and processes to achieve results and/or improve efficiency. Responsibilities Works as part of a team in a laboratory supporting chemists and engineers in developing, screening and commercializing new products and process. Manages and then safely executes laboratory work requests, maintaining and running relevant laboratory apparatus and testing equipment and documenting data. Develops experimental plans for review/approval by Lead Scientist or Technology Leader, and executes approved plans by performing routine and non-standard tasks or procedures of higher complexity. Achieves project goals using technical, role-specific skills and experience, and introduces new procedures for new instrument methods, equipment changes, or new equipment. Develops a specific expertise within the department and laboratory work group in specific procedures, equipment, or instruments. Acts responsible for calibration, safe operation and routine maintenance of simple and complex instruments, machinery, and system components, including production equipment. Updates personal knowledge for proper use of equipment via manuals and job aids, logs maintenance activities and calibration results as required. Communicates scientific observations to project team or principle investigator, and organizes and prepares data tables and charts for inclusion in supported studies. Required Qualifications A minimum of an Associate’s degree in a science related discipline or Military Degree Equivalency (MDE) and 3 or more years of relevant work experience or a high school diploma/GED and 5 or more years of relevant work experience Ability to work legally in the United States. Physical Demands You must be willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation: Wear personal protective equipment, including lab coat, goggles, and gloves. Work for extended periods in a laboratory, including standing, bending, reaching, and lifting activities. Confidently and safely move up to 50 pounds (e.g., positioning and configuring laboratory equipment such as pumps, vessels, and instruments). Skills Laboratory Instrumentation: Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment. Laboratory Safety: Apply safety protocols, hazard identification, and regulatory compliance. Analytical Thinking: Evaluate complex problems, interpret data, and select solutions using scientific reasoning. Technical Communication and Collaboration: Clearly communicate technical data through verbal updates while working effectively in teams. Organizing, Planning, and Prioritizing Work: Structure tasks, manage time, and prioritize activities to meet project goals efficiently. Process Equipment Operation: Hands-on operation, monitoring, and basic troubleshooting of pilot plant and laboratory equipment to support experimental execution. Process Control & Data Handling: Use of process control systems (e.g., DCS/PLC) for operating equipment, collecting data, and supporting trend analysis and technical reporting.
