Elder Hanson & Company, Ltd., a well-established CPA firm in downtown Naperville, Illinois, is looking for an experienced CPA, Enrolled Agent (EA), Tax Accountant, or Tax Preparer to join our team for the 2027 tax season.

This position is ideal for an experienced public accounting professional seeking seasonal, remote work with a flexible schedule. We welcome qualified seasonal employees and independent contractors throughout the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review individual federal and state income tax returns (Form 1040)
  • Prepare business and fiduciary income tax returns, including:
  • S Corporations (Form 1120-S)
  • Partnerships (Form 1065)
  • Trusts and Estates (Form 1041)
  • Research federal and state tax issues and identify tax planning opportunities
  • Assist with client tax planning and consulting
  • Prepare income tax basis financial statements as needed
  • Communicate professionally with clients and team members
  • Work independently while collaborating with a remote team
  • Use Lacerte, QuickBooks Online, Microsoft Office, ShareFile, and OfficeTools

Qualifications

Required

  • 7+ years of public accounting experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
  • Strong experience preparing individual income tax returns (Form 1040)
  • Experience preparing business income tax returns
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state income tax laws
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and QuickBooks Online
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment

Preferred

  • Active CPA license or Enrolled Agent (EA) designation
  • Experience with Lacerte Tax Software
  • Experience preparing Forms 1120-S, 1065, and 1041
  • Experience with multi-state tax returns
  • Tax research and planning experience

  • January through April 2027
  • Fully remote within the United States
  • 30+ hours per week during tax season
  • Additional hours may be available during peak filing periods
  • Flexible scheduling based on tax season workload
