Summary

You will serve as a Safety & Occupational Health Specialist in the Ops Division, Public Works Department of Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) Atlantic.

**Above salary does not include locality. Locality adjustment will be determined by your duty station location.**

This position is a 100% TDY position to Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, Africa. This is a full-time temporary assignment not to exceed 1 year.

May be filled as a temporary promotion or a temporary reassignment.

Duties

You will identify and resolve highly complex problems not susceptible to treatment by accepted methods and develops, integrates and implements solutions to diverse, highly complex problems across multiple areas and disciplines.
You will be the technical authority for planning, developing, organizing, administering, evaluating and coordinating a comprehensive safety/occupational health program for all assigned areas in diverse, high-risk operations and functions.
You will resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements using safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures.

Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
This position will require travel, 76% of the time or greater, from normal duty station. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes when making site visits, as determined by site conditions and applicable safety regulations.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Utilizing knowledge of Safety and Occupational health principles, practices, standards, and abatement measures to manage an Occupational Health program; 2) Utilizing knowledge of practical engineering methods and techniques, energy trace and barrier analysis to evaluate and resolve occupational Safety and Health programs; 3) Analyzing safety design features and specification to identifying and control hazardous construction processes and equipment usage; 4) Developing command policy on wide range of safety and occupational health activities inherent to Occupational Safety and Health program.
