We are looking for a Safety and Monitoring Licensor (SSS3) to join our Licensing Division (LD) team to help support and protect children, youth, and families. The Opportunity:

As a Safety & Monitoring Specialist, you will ensure that foster families receive the support they need to provide a nurturing and safe environment for children. You will be responsible for managing licensed foster homes, assisting in renewals, amendments, and investigations. Furthermore, you will evaluate family strengths, offer consultation, and address licensing concerns with empathy and understanding. Your commitment to promoting the well-being of children and their families will continue to make a difference in the surrounding community.

 

Some of what you'll do:

  • Receive and review renewal packets for completion.
  • Review family’s history of intakes and licensing complaints.
  • Complete comprehensive interviews with providers, family members and others living in the home. 
  • Perform physical inspections of all areas of the home, outbuildings and surrounding premises.
  • Assess for compliance with the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) and Washington Administrative Code (WAC).
  • Provide consultation to the applicants, refer to services or training and provide support throughout renewal licensing process.
  • Complete clear and accurate written assessment of this evaluation.
  • Provide technical assistance and interpretation of policy and statute governing licensing functions and assist foster parents in renewing their foster care license. 
  • Notify appropriate staff of family’s re-licensure and/or move.
  • Interface with appropriate staff in order to effect denial of renewals.
  • Monitor status of the license and communicate necessary requirements for renewals to foster parents.
  • Communicate license status to case workers with children placed prior to expiration.
  •  Monitor required training, send notifications when training has expired, and communicate training opportunities to foster parents.
  • Process amendments and modifications to a license.
  • Maintain license compliance.

Required Qualifications:

  • One (1) year as a Social Service Specialist 2.

    OR

 

  • Six (6) years of paid social service experience* AND 30 semester or 45 quarter credits in a Social Services discipline. 


            OR


  • A Bachelor's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, or any degree that includes 30 semester or 45 quarter credits in a Social Services discipline AND Two (2) years of paid social service experience* in planning, administering, developing, or delivery of public child welfare, social, health, or chemical dependency treatment programs.   
            
             OR
  • A Master's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, or any degree which includes 30 semester or 45 quarter credits in a Social Services discipline AND One (1) year of paid social service experience* in planning, administering, developing, or delivery of public child welfare, social, health, or chemical dependency treatment programs. 

     

Note*- Paid Social Service experience must include at least one (1) year of assessing risk and safety to children and providing direct family-centered practice services.

In addition to those required qualifications, our ideal applicant will also have some or all of the following:

  • Previous demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with diverse populations. 
  • Previous demonstrated understanding of agency policies, WAC, and RCW related to licensed facilities. 
  • Previous demonstrated ability to effectively, clearly, and concisely communicate verbally and in writing with management, peers, clients, and the public as required to carry out the assigned duties of the position. 
  • Previous demonstrated skills in the use of MS Office and FAMLINK database.
