Job Title: House Manager & Family Assistant (with Meal Prep Support)

Location: Alexandria, VA 22309

Employment Type: Part-time (15–20 hours/week, with 15 hours guaranteed)

Proposed Start Date: ASAP

Compensation: $30–35/hour (based on experience)

Requirements

  • Must maintain a smoke‑free environment
  • Have reliable transportation with a clean driving record
  • Comfortable working with, and occasionally walking, a large, friendly dog
  • Prior experience (5+ years) supporting private households in a House Manager, Family Assistant, Nanny/Household Hybrid, or similar role is required. More extensive experience strongly preferred
  • Background check required

Proposed Schedule

  • Preferred days 3x per week: Tuesday‑Thursday, but flexible for the right fit.
  • Hours: 5 hours per day, with potential adjustments based on family needs (12:00–5:00 PM or 1:00–6:00 PM), but flexible for the right fit.

  • Organized: Able to create and maintain household systems, including meal prep, laundry, and general tidiness, while keeping everything running smoothly.
  • Flexible: Capable of adjusting to the evolving needs of our family, including the occasional pickup for aftercare or coordinating with vendors.
  • Personable: Friendly, communicative, and eager to be an extra set of hands for the family. Comfortable with both children and pets, and ready to step in for backup childcare when needed.
  • Proactive & Trustworthy: Someone who can anticipate needs without constant direction, take the initiative with tasks, and provide a sense of calm organization.

Key Responsibilities

Meal Planning & Preparation

  • Plan, prep, and cook healthy, family‑friendly meals (2x per week), with a focus on healthy, fresh options for parents and kid‑friendly choices.
  • Batch‑cook breakfast items and snacks to ensure the family has healthy, easy‑to‑serve options, e.g. banana bread, fresh fruit is washed and cut.
  • Shop for groceries and maintain the grocery list system already in place.
  • Follow dietary restrictions/preferences, focusing on healthy meals for parents with kid‑friendly options.
  • Ensure the kitchen is clean and organized post‑prep.

Household Management & Organization

  • Organize and maintain closets, pantry, storage, and toys systems and areas.
  • Reset and tidy rooms daily, preparing the home for weekly cleaning services.
  • Have a general awareness of household calendars and schedules for the family.
  • Handle seasonal clothing swaps, packing, storing, washing and organizing.
  • Supervise or coordinate services such as handymen, cleaners, landscapers.
  • Assist with packing/unpacking for family trips and seasonal transitions.
  • Sort mail, handle returns, and organize donations.
  • Load/unload dishwasher, wipe surfaces, vacuum high traffic areas.

Inventory Management & Errands

  • Track and restock pantry, fridge, toiletries, household supplies
  • Create and manage running household supply lists
  • Coordinate and manage household orders and returns (Amazon, Costco, etc.)
  • Run errands: grocery shopping, returns, dry cleaning, gift shopping
  • Handle package pickup, mail sorting, and deliveries

Family Support & Child Assistance

  • On occasion assist with school pick‑ups and activities
  • Provide light supervision and assist with homework as needed.
  • Be flexible to stay later to help with childcare support when parents are traveling or have late commitments.

Laundry & Linen Care

  • Wash, dry, fold, organize, and put away family laundry, focusing on primarily kids clothing.
  • Keep laundry areas tidy and well‑stocked with supplies.

Pet Care

  • Occasionally feed and walk the family dog, ensuring dog bowls are cleaned daily.
  • Coordinate vet visits, when applicable.
  • Keep pet supplies stocked and organized.

Administrative & Personal Assistant Support

  • Handle light administrative tasks, including scheduling appointments, coordinating family logistics, and help with travel planning, scheduling and logistics related to upcoming trip(s).
  • Communicate with service providers (e.g., cleaners, handyperson, landscapers) to ensure everything runs smoothly.
