About the position

The City of Corona is seeking a dedicated and skilled Crime and Intelligence Analyst to join our Police Department. This position plays a crucial role in supporting law enforcement efforts by utilizing advanced analytical techniques and automated systems to analyze crime data and intelligence. The Crime and Intelligence Analyst will work closely with police officers, detectives, and management to provide essential insights that aid in the identification and apprehension of criminal offenders. The analyst will be responsible for employing geographical information systems and various software tools to conduct thorough analyses of crime patterns and trends, ultimately contributing to the safety and security of our community. In this role, the analyst will be expected to perform specialized technical support work, which includes collecting, analyzing, and interpreting complex statistical data. The ability to recognize and document crime series and patterns is essential, as is the capacity to develop and present findings in a clear and effective manner. The analyst will also be tasked with preparing reports and visual representations of data, such as tables, charts, and graphs, to communicate findings to various stakeholders within the department. The ideal candidate will possess a strong educational background in criminology, business or public administration, or a related field, along with relevant professional experience in crime analysis. Responsibilities

  • Utilize automated law enforcement systems and geographical information systems for crime analysis.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in criminology, business or public administration, or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of increasingly responsible professional experience involving the analysis of criminal activity.
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License, to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of administrative and operational analyses, research evaluation, and methodology.
  • Experience with ArcMap, ArcGIS, Crystal Reports, Computer Aided Dispatch, and Automated reporting systems is highly desirable.

Nice-to-haves

  • Possession of a certificate from an accredited program of study in Crime and Intelligence Analysis is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with common business computer applications and platforms, including MS Outlook, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel.
