Description

Under the immediate supervision of the Animal Care and Control Supervisor, maintain a clean, sanitary, healthy environment for all of our canines and felines. This includes cleaning individual enclosures, food and water dishes, the cat room and the outside kenneled areas. The Animal Care Center Technician is responsible for providing fresh water, food and throughout the day keeping the dogs' enclosures clean and comfortable, with laundered bedding.

  • Cleaning and maintaining the Animal Care premises on a daily basis.
  • Cleans and maintains animal kennels and surrounding areas including floors and hallways.
  • Communicates issues with animals to Animal Care and Control Manager or Animal Control Officer.  Communicates needs for supplies.
  • Cleans and disinfects cages, dog runs, floors, bowls, litter pans and other facility supplies in accordance with our policies.
  • Interacts, exercises, socializes and provides enrichment to the animals in our care.
  • Walking dogs.
  • Doing laundry.
  • Light grooming tasks such as bathing, brushing and nail trimming.
  • Assisting Animal Control Officers when necessary.

 

Typical Qualifications

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability and willingness to learn and the desire to provide gentle, compassionate care for our in-house canines and felines
  • Provide directions to volunteers or temporary staff.
  • Follows instructions from facility supervisor to completion.
  • Ability to recognize symptoms of animal disease or ability to learn symptoms of animal disease.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.  Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for satisfactory job performance. Previous experience is welcome but not required.

WORKING CONDITIONS 

  • Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.

Environmental Conditions:
  • Office environment; outdoor environment, animal shelter environment, working with animals; exposure to potentially hazardous environments.

Physical Conditions:

  • Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for lifting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, running, standing, sitting or walking for prolonged periods of time.
