A Camp Counselor is an important member of our field team. They help create magical and impactful nature-based day camps for children ages 5-12 and teens ages 13-17. A Summer Camp Counselor works throughout our summer camp season, which runs May through August.

Schoolhouse of Wonder is an award-winning North Carolina nonprofit that creates kind, curious, and confident kids through nature-based outdoor adventures. We run year-round day camps, field trips, and leadership training programs for 5-17 year olds across four Triangle locations.

Description

As a Camp Counselor, you’ll be spending your time:

  • Working with 2-3 staff members in a small group of children and participating in games, hikes, skill-based activities, river and creek explorations, storytelling, songs, building forts, whittling, and crafts;
  • Mentoring and coaching Junior Counselors and Counselors-in-Training;
  • Communicating with Schoolhouse staff and camp parents;
  • Modeling Schoolhouse values;
  • Ensuring the physical and emotional safety of participants.


Our summer season runs May 16th and runs through August 21st, 2026. Mandatory online training must be completed before required staff training on May 16th and 17th, with additional training the following week.

Salary

$15 - $16 per hour
